　Thanks to the internet, parents in Scotland may now be able to get a clearer picture of just how well their children’s schools are doing in educating their children. A new website, created by the Education Minister of Scotland, provides information for each school in the district.

　The information includes exam results for each school for the past three years, attendance and absence rates, the statistics for former students, and the proportion of students receiving free meals.

　The website was a response to the criticism that many had about the previously used grade performance charts, called exam league tables, which emphasized the grade results of the students of a school over other factors in judging the performance of a school.

　

　인터넷 덕분에 스코틀랜드의 부모들이 아이들이 다니는 학교에서 아이들 교육을 얼마나 잘하고 있는지에 대해 더 상세히 알 수 있게 되었다. 스코틀랜드 교육부가 새로 만든 웹사이트에서 지역 각 학교에 대한 정보를 제공해 주고 있기 때문이다.

　이 사이트에서는 지난 3년간 각 학교의 시험결과와 출·결석률, 학교를 거쳐간 학생들에 대한 통계자료, 그리고 무료급식을 받은 학생 비율 등에 관한 정보를 제공한다.

　이 웹사이트는 종전에 사용되었던 ‘시험 리그 표’라는 수행평가 차트에 대한 많은 이들의 비판이 있자, 이에 대응해 만들어졌다. 이 ‘시험 리그 표’는 한 학교의 성과를 평가하는 데 있어 다른 어떤 요소들보다 학생들의 성적에 중점을 둔 바 있다.
