May I ask in what way they are defective?

그것들이 어떻게 불량이지요?

캐나다로 이민가 갓 컴퓨터를 배운 사오정은 자신이 구입한 플로피디스크들을 몇 차례나 계속해서 반품을 했다(Kept Returning Floppy Disks). 디스크들이 불량품이었기(They Were Defective) 때문. 이상하게 여긴 점원이 물었다. How did you handle these diskettes?(이 디스켓들을 어떻게 다루셨지요?) 그가 한 말이 대 걸작! Oh, I keep them out of harm’s way! As soon as I take one out of the computer, I stick it on the refrigerator door with a magnet(오, 저는 디스켓을 손상되지 않을 곳에 보관합니다. 컴퓨터에서 꺼내자 마자 냉장고에 자석을 이용하여 붙여 두거든요). Out of Harm’s Way는 「안전한 곳에」라는 뜻.

A:I’d like to return these diskettes. They’re all defective.

이 디스켓들을 반품했으면 합니다. 모두 불량이거든요.

B:Okay, may I ask in what way they are defective?

어떻게 불량이지요?

A:Nothing is there when I try to retrieve the saved information later.

나중에 데이터를 불러오려면 아무 데이터도 남아 있지 않아요.
