　The day is soon coming when it won’t be unusual to have access to your e-mail from anywhere. At least that’s the promise of next-generation wireless technologies that are being built into new mobile phones and wireless personal digital assistants(PDAs).

　Motient, the owner and operator of one of the country’s biggest two-way wireless data networks, now has an add-on unit for the Palm V that will give you that same always-on connection for e-mail delivery. Billed the MobileModem, it gives you access to your corporate e-mail account and is always connected to the Motient network. When you get a message, it will wake up your Palm V, and it works with several corporate e-mail platforms, including Microsoft’s Exchange, Lotus Notes and Novell’s Groupwise.

　Motient’s network is pretty wide. You can expect that any major city in the U.S.--and even many smaller cities--will have coverage. The company claims its network, first built as a joint venture between Motorola and IBM, covers 99% of the 500 most populated areas in the country as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
