Online bazaar eBay Inc. is the most trusted U.S. company for privacy, according to a new consumer study released late on Wednesday.

　Internet companies, banks and health care organizations were seen as the most trustworthy, while the hotel industry and grocery store operators were seen as less trustworthy.

　Consumers said they cared most about a company’s overall reputation for product and service quality, followed by whether it limits the collection of customer’s personal information. Third most important was whether companies use advertisements and solicitations that respect consumer privacy.

Rounding out the top 10 in descending order, are American Express, Procter&Gamble Co., Amazon.com, Hewlett Packard Co.,the U.S. Postal Service, IBM, EathLink Inc., Citibank and Dell, according to the Ponemon Institute and the nonprofit TRUSTe, which polled more than 6,300 consumers for the study.

개인정보 보호에 있어 가장 신뢰받는 미국회사는 e베이인 것으로 수요일 오후에 발표된 새로운 소비자 조사에서 나타났다. 인터넷 업체들과 은행 및 의료기구업체들이 가장 신뢰할 만한 회사로 나타난 반면, 호텔 산업과 식료품점 운영자들은 신뢰가 덜 가는 회사인 것으로 나타났다.

소비자들은 회사의 상품과 서비스 질에 대한 전반적인 평판을 가장 중요시하며, 그 다음으로 소비자들의 개인 정보 수집 제한 여부라고 말했다. 세번째로는 업체의 광고와 구매유도가 소비자의 개인 정보를 존중하는 것인지의 여부가 꼽혔다.
