Chan: Susan, did you hear about the Chinese man who`s been arrested for writing and posting articles on the Internet?

Susan: Yes. Chinese authorities have charged him with subversion. It`s illegal in China to publicly criticize the political regime.

Chan: A group of intellectuals has circulated a petition, though, asking the government to relax its restrictions on freedom of speech.

Susan: But in places like China, it`s not still legal for people to use the Internet as a forum for exchanging ideas.

Chan: What a contrast from other societies, where people use the Internet to share almost every kind of information.

찬: 수잔, 글을 써 인터넷에 게재한 이유로 구속된 중국남자에 대해 들었어?

수잔: 어. 중국 당국에서 정부를 전복시키려 한다는 혐의로 그를 고발하였지. 중국에서는 정권을 공개적으로 비판하는 것은 위법이거든.

찬: 그렇지만, 정부가 언론의 자유에 대한 제재를 완화해 줄 것을 내용으로 하는 청원서를 일부 지식인들이 유포하였지.

수잔: 그러나 중국 같은 곳에서는 아직은 의견을 나누는 장으로 인터넷을 이용하는 것은 위법이지.

찬: 거의 모든 정보를 나누기 위해 인터넷을 사용하는 다른 사회들과는 얼마나 대조적인지!
