Mobile handset maker, Nokia, will be the first company to provide interactive radio. That is, the Finnish company is introducing technology that will allow customers to see pictures and receive information while listening to FM radio on their mobile phones.

Old Nokia phones with built-in FM radio options won`t be able to support the new technology. The first phone to have Visual Radio will be the 7700 model, due out in the summer. It will be a multimedia player related to a radio station`s programming, providing still images, video, music and information. Customers will have the option to receive instant news of their favorite artists, like when their music is being aired on the radio.

The trial run of the technology will be conducted with Helsinki`s kiss FM station later this year.

휴대폰 기기 생산업체인 노키아가 업계에서는 처음으로 쌍방향형 라디오를 선보이게 된다. 즉, 핀란드 회사인 노키아가 사용자들이 휴대폰으로 FM 라디오를 듣는 동안 사진을 보고, 정보를 받도록 해주는 기술을 선보이게 된다.

내장형 FM 라디오 기능이 있는 노키아의 구형 단말기는 이 신기술을 지원하지 않는다. 이번 여름에 출시될 예정인 노키아의 7700 모델이 비주얼 라디오를 내장한 최초의 단말기가 된다. 이 모델은 라디오 방송국의 프로그램과 연계되어, 스틸 사진, 비디오, 음악 및 각종 정보를 제공하는 멀티미디어 플레이어 기능을 하게 된다. 사용자들은 좋아하는 뮤지션의 음악이 방송을 타고 있을 때, 좋아하는 뮤지션들에 대한 최신 정보를 그 자리에서 제공받을 수도 있게 된다.

이 신기술은 올 하반기에 헬싱키의 kiss FM 방송국과 협력 하에 시험 운영될 예정이다.
