Peter: Should I upgrade my software programs every chance I get?

Mijin: Absolutely not.

Peter: How come? Does not a newer software version mean that it will run better?

Mijin: Not necessarily. The adage "If it ain`t broke, don`t fix it" can be applied here. Just because a new version is available, it does not mean that it will run better than, or even as well as your present version.

Peter: I see.

Mijin: Unless you are having specific problems with your current version, or need specific features of a newer version, stick with the old one.

피터: 소프트웨어 프로그램은 매번 업그레이드를 해줘야 하니?

미진: 전혀 아니지.

피터: 왜? 새로운 버전이 더 잘 작동하는 거 아냐?

미진: 꼭 그렇지는 않아. "긁어 부스럼 만들지 말라"는 말이 여기에 적용될 수 있지. 신 버전이 나왔다고 해서 현 버전보다 더 성능이 향상됐거나 현 버전만큼 성능이 좋다는 얘기는 아니지.

피터: 그렇구나.

미진: 현 버전에 특정 문제가 있거나 신 버전의 특정 기능이 필요한 게 아니라면, 현 버전을 그냥 쓰도록 하렴.
