People suffering from Parkinson’s disease and other tremor conditions find it challenging, at best, to use personal computers. Hand tremors, depending on how severe, can make it almost impossible to use the mouse effectively and manipulate the cursor on the screen.

The UK National Tremor Foundation says about three million Britons suffer from some sort of hand tremor condition.

Now, an IBM researcher has invented a device that will help this problem. Based on ‘steady cam’ technology used in video cameras, the Assistive Mouse Adapter (AMA) is plugged into a PC and can be adjusted depending on the level of tremors. IBM plans to partner up with an electronics firm to manufacture the AMAs, and sell them for about $134.00 US.

이제, IBM의 한 연구자가 이 문제를 해결해 줄 장치를 발명했다. 비디오 카메라에서 사용하는 ‘스태디 캠’ 기술에 기초한 이 마우스 보조기구(AMA)는 컴퓨터에 연결하며, 떨림의 정도에 따라 조절이 가능하다. IBM은 AMA를 제작하기 위해서 한 전자회사와 협력할 계획이며, 이 장치는 약 134달러에 판매될 예정이다.
