A new survey reveals that almost 70% of workers have stolen information from their place of employment. Technology is making it easier for employees to take information such as proposals, presentations, and email address books.

The most common type of information stolen from the workplace is customer databases. Representatives from Ibas, the data forensics firm that conducted the survey, say that theft most often occurs when employees leave a company to go work for another one.

Because they`ve worked so hard to develop contacts and sales opportunities, these employees feel they deserve to take this information with them when they leave. Over 80% of employees surveyed said that the labor and effort of their work justifies the theft.

Employees usually transfer the information to their personal email accounts, but a few burn it onto CDs.

최근의 한 조사에 따르면 회사원 중 약 70퍼센트가 그들 직장에서 정보를 빼온 적이 있다고 한다. 기술이 발달함에 따라 회사 직원들이 제안, 발표자료, 이메일 주소록 같은 정보를 가져가는 것이 점점 쉬워지고 있다.

회사에서 빼오는 정보 중 가장 흔한 형태는 소비자 자료이다. 이번 조사를 실시한 정보 수사회사 Ibas의 대표단은 직원들이 다니던 회사를 떠나 다른 곳으로 직장을 옮길 때 정보 유출이 가장 많이 일어난다고 밝혔다.

이들은 연줄을 쌓고 판매 기회를 만들기 위해 열심히 일해왔으므로 회사를 떠날 때 정보를 가져가는 것이 당연하다고 생각한다. 조사 대상인 회사원 중 80퍼센트 이상이 정보를 빼가는 것은 그들의 노동과 수고로 정당화 될 수 있는 것이라고 말했다. 직원들은 대개 정보를 자신의 개인 이메일 계정으로 옮기는데, 일부는 정보를 CD로 굽기도 한다.
