　I can fill in for you.

Jenny: Good morning! How was your weekend?

James: Not bad, but I had a really bad toothache.

Jenny: Sorry to hear that. Are you going to see the dentist?

James: Yes. Actually, I was going to the dentist`s during my lunch hour, but I can`t because they`re booked up at that time. So, I made an appointment at 3:00 p.m., but the thing is I have to teach.

Jenny: I see. Well, I don`t have any classes this afternoon. So, if you want, I can fill in for you.

James: Really? Oh, I can`t thank you enough!

Jenny: 안녕하세요? 주말은 잘 보내셨어요?

James: 그럭저럭요. 치통이 너무 심해서요.

Jenny: 안됐군요. 치과에 가보셔야죠?

James: 네. 그런데, 점심 시간 동안에 치과에 가보려 했더니, 다 예약이 되어있다고 해서요. 3시에 예약 하긴 했는데, 제가 그때 수업이 있어요.

Jenny: 그렇군요. 제가 오늘 오후엔 수업이 없거든요. 원하신다면, 제가 대신 해 드릴게요.

James: 그래 주시겠어요? 정말 고마워요.

‘fill in’은 ‘(구멍, 빈곳을) 메우다, 채우다’란 뜻이다. ‘fill in for someone’은 ‘누구를 위해서 빈곳을 채우다’라는 뜻인데, 누구를 위해서 업무나 일을 대신 해줄 때 유용하게 쓸 수 있는 표현이다. 한 단어로 ‘substitute’ 로 바꿔 쓸 수 있다.

toothache: 치통 be booked up: (예약이) 매진되다

can`t thank you enough: 감사함을 충분히 표현치 못하다-> 너무 감사하다
