Chan: Susan, Intel is jumping on board the WiMax standard, did you know?

Susan: I guess next week they’ll unveil a new chip that can receive WiMax signals.

Chan: Whereas WiFi was short range broadband, used in homes and offices, Wimax can stretch over tens of kilometers.

Susan: That will make it possible to provide broadband to rural areas.

Chan: Versions of WiMax are already in use, but are not yet widespread.

Susan: We’ll see how the new chip changes that.

찬: 수잔, 인텔이 와이맥스에 뛰어든다는데, 알고 있었어?

수잔: 다음주에 와이맥스 신호를 받을 수 있는 새로운 칩을 공개할 예정이라고 알고 있어.

찬: 와이파이가 단거리용 초고속 인터넷 망으로 가정이나 직장에서 사용되는 것인데 반해, 와이맥스는 수천 킬로미터까지 뻗어갈 수 있지.

수잔: 그렇게 되면 시골에도 초고속 인터넷망을 보급할 수 있겠군.

찬: 와이맥스는 이미 다양한 형태로 사용되고 있긴 하지만, 아직 널리 보급된 건 아니야.

수잔: 그럼 새로 선보일 칩이 이를 어떻게 바꿔놓을 지는 두고 보면 알겠지.
