2005 US Robocup

Two-hundred researchers gathered for an unusual competition recently at the Georgia Institute of Technology. The researchers, however, were not the highlight of the 2005 US Open. Their robots were.

A variety of ‘games’ demonstrate the latest in robotic technology. Many of the researchers are from the Department of Defence, so the focus is in two areas: surveillance robots, which could be used in military battles; and rescue robots, which could be trained to help victims of natural disasters. One of the ‘games’ was a search-and-rescue simulation, in which robots had to locate victims in a post-earthquake scenario.

But by far the most popular event was the RoboCup, in which teams of robots, looking like dogs, battled on the soccer field. Organizers foresee a human versus robot football game by 2050.

한편 단연 가장 인기를 모았던 이벤트는 로보컵으로, 여기에서는 개처럼 생긴 로봇으로 구성된 팀이 축구장에서 경기를 펼쳤다. 주최측은 2050년쯤에는 사람 대 로봇 축구 경기가 가능할 것이라고 내다보고 있다.
