<인터넷 영어> AOL headed for S&P 500

　America Online is being added to the Standard & Poor′s 500 Index in what some investors say is a belated recognition of the Internet′s growing importance as a medium for commerce and communications.

　AOL will replace Venator Group in the index after the close of trading December 31, S&P said.

　Meanwhile, Solectron Corporation, a provider of electronics manufacturing solutions to original equipment manufacturers, also announced that it has been added to the S&P 500 Index.

　Internet-related companies have been among this year′s best performers in the stock market, and the industry has experienced explosive growth in the past few years. AOL will be the first Internet stock in the 500-stock index, the benchmark against which professional managers are judged.

AOL, S&P 500에 선정

　아메리카온라인(AOL)이 올해 처음 스탠더드 & 푸어스(S&P) 500 기업으로 선정됐다. 이와 관련, 일부 투자전문가들은 상거래와 커뮤니케이션의 수단으로 급부상한 인터넷의 중요성에 대한 뒤늦은 평가라고 논평했다.

　AOL은 12월 31일 주식거래가 마감되면 베나토그룹을 대신해 S&P 500에 포함될 것이라고 S&P사가 발표했다.

　또한 일렉트로닉 매뉴팩처링 솔루션을 OEM으로 공급하는 솔렉트론사 역시 S&P 500에 추가됐다.

　지난 몇년간 인터넷산업은 폭발적인 성장세를 지속해 왔고 인터넷 관련업체들은 올해 주식시장에서 눈에 띄는 활약을 보였다. 그 결과 AOL은 전문가들의 심사를 거쳐 S&P 인덱스에 가장 먼저 포함된 인터넷 업체가 됐다.
