호프집에서 10명 정도의 친구들이 생일 파티를 해 주는 걸 보고 의아해하는 Sunny, 대체 이유가 무엇일까요?

“깜짝 파티를 열다”라고 말할 때

“Throw a surprise party.”

Sunny: Whenever I see people gathered like that, it surprises me. How can they have 10 friends who know each other? That’s just amazing! I can never have those crews.

Luke: Well, you don’t get together with a bunch of friends for your birthday or anything? You seem to have many friends all the time.

Sunny: Well, the thing is I have many friends, about 10 or 12. But none of my friends knows each other. That’s a problem.

Luke: So, you meet one on one for your birthday? So you have to meet 10 people separately for your birthday? That would cost a lot!

Sunny: 저렇게 사람들이 뭉쳐있는 걸 볼 때마다 너무 놀라워. 어떻게 열명의 친구들이 서로들 잘 알 수 있지? 너무 놀랍다. 나는 저런 친구 무리가 없는데.

Luke: 그럼 생일에 친구 여럿이 뭉쳐서 놀지 않아? 친구 많은 것 같은데.

Sunny: 응, 나 친구들 한 10∼12명 정도 있어. 문제는 모두 서로 잘 모른다는 거지.

Luke: 그러면, 너는 생일파티 하려면 한명씩 열번을 따로 만나야 하는 거야? 돈 많이 들겠다!

그럼 Sunny에게 깜짝 파티란 있을 수 있을까요?

Luke: Well, just out of curiosity, if someone wanted to throw a surprise party for you, then how could they make all your friends get together? They just don’t know each other.

Sunny: Oh, I wondered why no one ever threw me a surprise party! I thought no one really liked me. Now I know why!

Luke: 궁금해서 물어보는 건데, 만약 어떤 사람이 네 생일에 깜짝 파티를 열려고 하면, 어떻게 네 친구들을 한번에 모이게 할 수 있을까? 친구들이 서로 모른다며.

Sunny: 아! 왜 사람들이 깜짝 파티를 안 열어주는지 궁금했었어! 아무도 날 좋아하지 않는 줄 알았는데, 이제야 알겠군!
