Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest technology: the world’s first laptop computer that can support T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting) while maintaining regular Internet applications. T-DMB allows users to receive TV programming while using the Internet on their mobile devices.

The launch of this product comes on the heels of two others that pioneered the use of T-DMB in Korea-LG Electronics’ multi-function cell phone last December, and SK Telecom’s S-DMB (satellite digital multimedia broadcasting) capable cell phone last month.

Samsung Electronics says it will start mass producing its new laptop computers when Korea launches the world’s first T-DMB and S-DMB service in May.

삼성전자가 가장 최근에 개발한 기술로 다른 인터넷 어플리케이션 사용을 지원하면서도 T-DMB방식을 사용할 수 있는 노트북을 세계 최초로 선보였다. T-DMB 방식을 사용하면 이동기기로 인터넷을 사용하는 중에도 TV 프로그램을 받아 볼 수 있다.

이 제품은 한국의 T-DMB 기술 사용 부분에 있어 선두에 섰던 다른 두 기업에 이어 출시된 것이다. LG 전자는 지난 12월 다기능 핸드폰을, SK 텔레콤은 지난 달 위성 DMB(S-DMB)폰을 선보였다.

삼성전자는 오는 5월 세계 최초로 한국에서 T-DMB와 S-DMB 서비스를 개시하는 시기에 맞추어 이 신기술을 탑재한 노트북 컴퓨터의 대량생산에 들어갈 예정이라고 밝혔다.
