Superstitious Chinese mobile phone users are spending huge amounts of money to make sure they have lucky numbers(미신적인 중국인 휴대폰 이용자들이 확실하게 그들이 행운의 숫자를 확보하기 위해서 어마어마한 금액을 지출하고 있다).

In China, numbers are usually given to cards that are bought separately from the phone, so the numbers can be switched between different mobiles(중국에서는 전화번호는 전화기와 따로 구입하는 카드에 주어진다. 따라서 번호는 다른 휴대폰간에 교환이 가능하다).

Number auctions are becoming popular and prices are rising(번호 경매가 점점 인기를 끌고 있으며 가격도 올라가고 있다). Eight is the best number to have, with sixes and nines being sought after as well(8이 소지하기에 가장 좋은 숫자이고 6과 9도 또한 인기가 있다).

Certain sequences are in demand because they sound like Chinese phrases(몇몇 숫자배열은 그것이 중국말처럼 들려서 수요가 있다). The sequence 518 can be interpreted as 「I want to prosper」 while 168 sounds like 「A road to prosperity」(168은 「성공에의 길」로 발음이 되고 518 배열은 「나는 성공하고 싶다」로 해석될 수 있다).

But the numbers ending in four are being sold below cost because number four, pronounced 「si」 in Mandarin, is similar to the word for death(하지만 4로 끝나는 번호는 4가 북경표준어로 죽음이란 단어와 비슷한 「시」로 발음되기 때문에 원가 이하로 팔리고 있다).
