Please ATTACH a photograph to your application form(지원서에 사진 한 장을 첨부하십시오).처럼 쓰는 것은 attach의 흔한 용법. 하지만 attach에는 의외의 뜻도 있다. He is strongly ATTACHED to his new company.는 무슨 뜻일까? 이렇게 attach가 「get/be attached to + 사람/사물」의 형태로 쓰이면 「… 에 애착/애정을 가지다」란 의미가 된다.

하지만 상업 통신에서는 주로 「첨부하다」란 뜻으로 쓰이는데 「첨부」를 강조하기 위해서 다음과 같이 도치시키는 경우가 많다. ATTACHED is a list of retailers in Korea who carry a full line of our products(당사의 전 제품을 취급하는 한국의 소매망 리스트를 첨부합니다). Based on our discussion at the meeting last week, ATTACHED is a revised draft of the License Agreement(지난 주 상담 내용에 근거해 라이선스 계약서의 수정본을 첨부합니다). 다음은 attached를 도치시키지 않은 경우. I’m ATTACHING the complete info on our new product(당사의 신제품에 대한 완전한 정보를 첨부합니다). An outline of the seminar is ATTACHED(그 세미나의 개요를 첨부했습니다). I can’t read the ATTACHED file.
