Gates mum on court ruling

【BEIJING】 Microsoft chairman Bill Gates today refused to discuss a key U.S. antitrust action against his company but said its browser war with Netscape Communications would continue.

『This will continue. They ll have a new version, we ll have a new version. It s a healthy competition that you expect in the computer software market,』 he told an audience at China s leading technology university.

Gates, wrapping up a round of technology evangelism in China, did not reply to a reporte s question about a U.S. federal judge s ruling yesterday barring MS from requiring personal computer makers who license its Windows 95 operating software to also accept its Internet Explorer(IE) browser.

MS s current browser was winning ground in the race with Netscape, Gates added.

『Today, our latest browser, IE4.0, is doing very well. It s winning the reviews and it s gaining some share,』 he told students at Beijing s Qinghua University, China s equivalent of Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

【베이징】빌 게이츠 MS 회장은 그의 회사에 내려진 미국정부의 반독점법 위반판결에 대한 논평을 거부했으나 넷스케이프와 브라우저 전쟁은 계속될 것이라고 말했다.

중국에서 기술 강연회에 잇따라 참석중인 게이츠는 윈도95를 라이선스하고 있는 PC업체들에 IE브라우저도 함께 취급하도록 한 MS(의 요구)를 제지한 미국 연방법원의 판결에 대한 기자의 질문에는 답하지 않았다.

그는 중국의 MIT로 일컫는 베이징 청화대학 학생들에게 『현재 최신 IE4.0은 매우 잘나가고 있다. 제품 평가도 앞서고 있으며 상당한 시장점유율을 기록중』이라고 말했다.
